Costa Rica has been famous of its forests, and protects a land than any other country in the world. In 1970 to protect the land; unique, vanishing, and systematic effort was begin to save what was left of the wildness. In the same year Costa Ricans formed a National park System that has won worldwide admiration. The National Conservation Areas System protects more than 186 areas, including 32 national parks, eight biological reserves, 13 forest reserves, and 51 wildlife refuges.

These national Parks are managed by MINAE (Ministerio de Ambiental by Energia). In 1998 eleven conservation Areas were established by MINAE to oversee and manage the public lands of Drake Bay, Costa Rica.
